The Cervical Sample Taker Training Course offered by Well Women and Family Trust (WWFT) is a NZQA accredited course and reflects NZQA Unit standard 29556 Conduct Cervical Screening (L6 credit 10) & the National Cervical Screening Programme Standards of practice. 

 

This training course is divided into four parts:

• Pre-reading (3 hours)

• Theory module (compulsory 2-day/ 16 hours attendance)

• Written Assignment (3 hours)

• Clinical experience (min 15 smears) with 10 Consultation Reports

• Clinical assessment in workplace by approved assessor

The Cervical Sample Taker Training Course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to become competent cervical sample takers. This includes preparing women for cervical screening, taking cervical samples, interpreting cervical sample results, initiating follow up action and completing documentation in accordance with NCSP guidelines.

 

The Training Programme offers a holistic approach to Women’s health and includes presentations from experts in Sexual health, Pelvic organ prolapse , Breast cancer awareness, Periods to Menopause, HPV vaccination and Senior scientist from Auckland Pathology Services.

 

A significant portion of day two is set aside for scenario based practical sessions using our anatomically correct mannequins.

Entry to the cervical smear taker training programme is restricted to:

​

• Registered Health Professionals who

• Hold a current NZ Practicing Certificate

• Have personal indemnity insurance.

• Have an experienced and Current Cervical Sample taker for Clinical Supervision.

• Access to appropriate client base who require Cervical Screening.

WWFT has maintained strong course completions and has met most of the important needs of learners and other stakeholders since the last EER.
